Karen Shaw TEP, CFP®, CIWM
Owner & Financial Advisor
Karen Shaw is the owner and a financial advisor at Birch Bay Wealth Management Inc with over 15 years of experience. The banking industry is in her family roots, making family reunions especially fun for the in-laws.
Born in Alberta, Karen now lives in Carnduff, SK with her husband Ken. Her family is rounded out with 2 sons and their wives, and 4 bonus children. She loves them all, but the ones that have provided her with her 3 grandchildren may be slightly more favoured.
Karen has been able to mix her passion for helping people and solving real life puzzles with her career. Having worked at both a bank and a credit union, she felt that two specific demographics were often in need of the most tailored advice but instead were left with generic, rule-of-thumb type advice. The first were pre-retirees/retirees trying to find the best way to unwind their lifetime of saving tax-efficiently and safely, the second were those with competing priorities that often come with blended families. This drove her go on her own to provide the tailored, full-service advice for those that want it. Keeping up on solutions is extremely important to Karen, as shown by the three designations she has earned – Certified Financial Planner, Trust and Estate Practitioner, and Certified International Wealth Manager.
With small-town roots and big-city expertise, Karen provides personalized, client-centric financial and investment guidance. She enjoys both water activities like kayaking, paddleboarding and fishing, as well as land activities like hiking and cross-country skiing. With limited success, she also attempts to make her Boston Terrier, Bella, enjoy these too.

Kayla Caldwell
Executive Assistant
Kayla Caldwell keeps the firm on track as the Executive Assistant and is the face behind many of the emails. She is currently taking courses with CSI and will be writing her exams shortly to obtain her licensing for Financial Advisor as well as personal and group insurance.
Born and raised in Sundre, Kayla has two boys and a background in agriculture. Kayla has a diploma in Agricultural Management from Olds College with a focus on the Beef Industry. After graduating from College she moved to Manitoba with her now husband and spent a summer with WADO doing crop research. Over the two years of living in Manitoba she maintained her involvement with grain farming and beef production.
Though she shifted into finance, her passion for helping farmers remains strong. As an active board member of the Sundre Rodeo and Bulls & Wagons committee, Kayla understands the unique demands of farming life. She offers flexible, personalized financial services that fit farmers’ schedules, whether during calving, seeding, harvesting and everything in between.
Growing up in a small town, Kayla values face-to-face connections and believes in building strong, personal relationships with her clients.
